Microsoft has ended the synchronization program for Outlook Calendar many years ago, but you can still connect Outlook to Google Calendar. We explain how to sync two so you can see events in both calendars.
Before you ask if you can synchronize your Google Calendar and Outlook, you should ask yourself if this is really necessary. For example, if you own an iPhone, Android smartphone or another phone, you will be able to add multiple accounts and therefore multiple calendars.
This approach usually means that Google Calendar and Outlook appear together in the same app. This is not syncing, but that means you can see two or more calendars in the same app and view.
If you are using a PC or laptop with Outlook in Windows, you can switch to the online version of Outlook.com, which supports multiple calendars. You can sign in from any computer with an Internet connection, and you will not experience sync issues as everything is stored online.
Just select a calendar
Using two calendars from two companies can lead to problems – so you should pick a problem, if possible. It simplifies planning and scheduling events and solving synchronization problems.
Both Google and Microsoft support multiple calendars, such as calendar and personal calendar, and each calendar or view combines, whether you’re using a mobile device or a PC or laptop. hand. If you want to join a new event, you can choose which calendar to add. The only complication is that you may get something wrong – but at least you have no synchronization problem.
To export Google Calendar
To export events from Google Calendar, you must use the web version on your PC or Mac. In the left column, under the “My calendars” section, click the drop-down menu next to the corresponding calendar (“Options for …”) and select “Install and share.” In the calendar settings, go to “Export calendar”. Create a zip file. Copy the accompanying ics file and save it to the folder of your choice.
Click “Import and Export” at the top of the left menu to see your export options as a zip file.
To import Google Calendar into Outlook
To import Google Calendar into the Windows Outlook application, go to “File – Open and Export / Import”. Select the option to import an iCalendar (.ics) file. You can then decide whether this calendar should be opened as a new calendar, or whether elements of that calendar will be imported into your calendar.
To export Outlook calendar and import it into Google
To export your Outlook calendar (from the Outlook app), go to “File – Open and Export – Import / Export”. In the menu window, select Export to File, then Split using the Separator, and then click Calendar in the list below. You can now save the exported file as an .csv file.
To import a csv file into Google Calendar, click “Add another calendar,” select “import”, and a previously saved csv file.
To import calendars with Outlook.com
If you use the Calendar section of Outlook.com, you can not export but import.
To do so, click “Add Calendar”, then select “From File” in the menu and navigate to your ics file to import.
Use a calendar on your mobile device
On your Android smartphone or tablet, you install the free Microsoft Outlook application from the Google Play Store. When you first install Outlook on your phone, you will be asked whether you want to link it to another account. Select this option, and your calendar will be synced.
The calendar app on iPhone and iPad can also display combined Google and Outlook calendars. Go to “Settings, Mail, Contacts, Calendars” and click “Add account”.
Use the options to add Google and Outlook.com accounts. Accept the suggestion to sync calendar – that’s it. Events added to Google Calendar, Outlook.com, or Outlook calendar when they are synced with Outlook.com will automatically appear in the iOS Calendar app.
Tip: Use invitation
One way to schedule appointments at the same time in Google and Outlook calendars is to invite yourself to create a new appointment. For example, in Google Calendar, you’ll receive an event by adding your Hotmail email address.
First, you must signin your Hotmail account.
Outlook adds a calendar invitation from Google as an unconfirmed event. You can leave it that way or click “Accept” in the message to confirm the invitation.
Outlook.com does not automatically add invitations to the calendar, here you have to click Accept in the message.
You can manually accept invitations from Outlook / Outlook.com to Google Calendar in Gmail, but there’s a better way. In Google Calendar, click the Gear button and select Settings. On the General tab, you can automatically add invitations to your calendar.
Third-party applications and services
There are also applications and services, some free, Google calendar synchronization and Outlook. Here are some examples:
Syncgene can automatically sync your contacts, calendars, and tasks via your iPhone, Android, Outlook, Gmail, and Apps. Free versions are limited to two data sources and do not provide automatic synchronization. The unrestricted version currently costs $ 4.95 per month for the subscription and can be canceled at any time.
Sync2 syncs Outlook with Google Calendar and works for $ 39.95. Synchronize on schedule or whenever changes are detected in Outlook. You can check out the free tool for 7 days.
Oggsync performs a similar task and v8.1 fixes the synchronization issues introduced by the changes to Google. It costs $ 29.95 a year.
Gsyncit v5 is an add-on for Outlook, synchronizing in one and both directions between Outlook and Google Calendar. It costs $ 19.99.
Another option is Scand Outlook4Gmail, which synchronizes Outlook calendars with your Google Calendar. It can also synchronize contacts. A single license costs $ 28.98.
Calendar Sync is free, easy to use and performs exactly what you want. Enter your Google username and password and click “Save settings”. Click “Sign in to Google” to allow. You can now choose Google Calendar to sync if more than one and if Google or Outlook is the primary calendar. Two-way synchronization after the last modification date is possible and you can choose to delete the copies in Outlook or Google. You can auto-sync on the Auto-sync tab, but not too often, as Google sets a limit.
However, the user’s feedback is different – some prefer it, others have problems with it.
Another option is Google Calendar Sync, available as Alpha Version 2.7.4. It synchronizes events including participants and reminders. This tool does not need to be installed and running behind the web proxy.
